How I Read and Study My Bible
I get a lot of peace and joy from reading the Bible daily, and over time, I’ve developed a simple, intentional routine that helps me stay consistent and get the most out of my quiet time with God.
I use the Hosanna Revival NLT Bible—it’s not only beautiful but easy to understand, which helps me really connect with Scripture. When I sit down to read, I always have a few essentials: a pen for notes, a highlighter (or a couple), and Post-it notes. These tools help me mark what stands out, jot down insights, and stay engaged with what I’m reading.
Most days, I’ll read one to two chapters. I don’t rush—my goal isn’t to get through the Bible quickly but to really understand what God is saying. After reading, I go to BibleRef.com to study the chapter in more depth. I’ll take notes directly in my Bible margins or on Post-its that I stick nearby.
If a particular verse grabs my attention or confuses me, I’ll dig deeper. I’ll look up commentary on that verse, either on BibleRef or through trusted Christian writers and teachers. Sometimes I search for podcasts or videos that unpack that Scripture even more. I love learning how others interpret the Word and apply it in their lives.
Most importantly, I always pray—before, during, and after reading. I ask God to give me wisdom and clarity, especially when I come across something I don’t fully understand. The Holy Spirit is the best teacher, and I never want to study Scripture without inviting God into the process.
This quiet time has become one of my favorite parts of the day. It’s where I get rooted, renewed, and reminded of what truly matters.
