The Last 3 Months of 2025: Choosing Discipline to Step into 2026 Strong

Lately, I’ve been thinking about how quickly 2025 has gone by. We’re down to the last three months, and I don’t want to waste them just coasting into the new year. Too many times I’ve told myself, “I’ll start fresh in January.” But this year, I feel God tugging at my heart to begin NOW.

The truth is, discipline isn’t always easy. Hebrews 12:11 reminds us: “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”

So for these final 90 days of 2025, I’ve made a decision: to live with biblical discipline and lets be honest, not perfectly, but intentionally. I want to finish this year strong so I can walk into 2026 already rooted in the right habits.

Here are the disciplines I’m personally leaning into (and maybe you’ll want to join me, too):

1. Daily Time with God

This is the most important. Before I pick up my phone, check emails, or start my day, I want to sit with God in prayer, in His Word, and in quiet meditation. My mornings feel completely different when I give Him my first moments. The days go a lot more smoothly when I invite God into my day first thing in the morning!

“But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)

2. Eating Whole, Nourishing Foods

I’ve noticed how much food impacts not just my body, but my mood and clarity. For the rest of this year, I want to choose real, whole foods and cut back on processed and sugary things (those darn starbucks refreshers). When I eat better, I feel better — and I can serve God and others with more energy.

“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31)

3. Moving My Body Every Day

Some days I’ll work out, and some days it’ll just be a walk. But movement is non-negotiable. Even on a walk, I use the time to talk with God, turning exercise into prayer. You would be surprised with how much you want to tell God durning a quick walk, I talk to him like my best friend.

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit… Therefore honor God with your bodies.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)

4. Rest & Better Sleep

I used to wear busyness like a badge of honor, but God has been teaching me the value of true rest. Sleep is where our brains reset and our bodies heal. And rest also means pausing, breathing, and trusting God with the things I can’t control. When I lack sleep, yikes watch out! The brain fog is a whole different level of unfocus. Sleep is a vital part to cascade other habits into place. If you don’t sleep well other parts of your life suffer. One major thing I have and will continue to focus on is getting the right amount of deep and REM sleep. Two major components in determining your overall quality of sleep. Take sleep/rest seriously!

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28)

5. Practicing Generosity

I don’t want these last months to be all about me. I want to live open-handed, giving my time, resources, and love. Generosity doesn’t always mean money; sometimes it’s simply being present with people who need encouragement. We are all distracted in todays world (by dumb stuff 90% of the time…social media, netflix binge etc), please work on being more present.

“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.” (Proverbs 11:25)

6. Financial Discipline

This one isn’t glamorous, but it’s necessary. I’m choosing to be more intentional about saving, paying down debt, and giving to God first. Finances are an area where I’ve often drifted, but discipline here brings peace. I am so proud of how far I’ve come with this area and I can’t wait to see where God takes me.

“The plans of the diligent lead surely to abundance, but everyone who is hasty comes only to poverty.” (Proverbs 21:5)

7. Fasting with Intention

For me, fasting looks different depending on the season. Sometimes it’s from food, other times it’s social media or distractions. The point isn’t just giving something up, but creating space for God to fill me. This is an area I really need to focus on because it’s been taking up more of my time than it should and I want no more time wasted distractions.

“When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do… But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face.” (Matthew 6:16-18)

8. Guarding My Words

This is a discipline I really need to practice — being slow to speak and quick to listen. Words have power, and I want mine to build up, not tear down. I have been a little obsessed in this area along with sleep too. I have been reading and learning a lot about how our words really have a massive impact on the direction our life leads. What we tell ourselves and others really can shape who we are and what we do. Speak life at all times.

“Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up.” (Ephesians 4:29)

9. Cultivating Gratitude

I’ve learned that gratitude shifts everything. Even in tough days, there is always something to thank God for. Keeping a gratitude list these next three months is one way I’m retraining my heart. This world makes you want the next best thing every 2 seconds but honestly when you get that thing it really means nothing and the thrill goes away even faster. Enjoy everything and everyone around that you already have.

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

These are the disciplines I’m committing to for the rest of 2025. Not out of legalism or pressure but because I want to honor God with the days I’ve been given.

If I can stay faithful in these last 3 months of 2025, I know I’ll step into 2026 not scrambling to create new habits, but already walking in the strength and peace that discipline brings.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind.” (Romans 12:2)

So let’s finish strong, together. What habits will you commit to in these last three months?
