Why Obedience Changes Everything

One of the greatest gifts God gave us is free will. He didn’t create us like robots, forced to love Him, forced to obey Him, forced to follow Him. Instead, he gave us something sacred…the ability to choose. And in that freedom, God gives us an invitation.

I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life.

Deuteronomy 30:19

We get to choose Him. We get to choose His ways. We get to choose whether we trust Him enough to follow where He leads, even when it’s uncomfortable, confusing or requires discipline. And that’s where obedience comes in. Because when you truly begin to love God, you start to desire what He desires. You begin to understand that his commands aren’t restrictions, they’re protection. His way isn’t punishment, it’s peace.

If you love Me, you will keep My commandments.

John 14:15

Here’s what i’ve learned and i’m still learning. Blessings are often on the other side of obedience. God honors obedience because obedience proves trust. God is a loving father. and like any good father, he wants to bless his kids. He wants to see them flourish and step into the fullness of who they’re called to be. But God is also wise, he doesn’t just hand out abundance when we aren’t ready to steward it, because abundance without maturity doesn’t bless you…it can break you.

That’s why scripture says:

Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much.

Luke 16:10

Think about finances, for example. If God can’t trust you with a little, why would he send you more? Not because he’s mean, not because he enjoys saying “no.” But because he knows what more will do to you if your character isn’t ready.

And the Bible literally confirms this:

Honor the lord with your wealth…then your barns will be filled to overflowing.

Proverbs 3:9-10

God loves to bless, but he also cares deeply about stewardship. Some of us are praying for increase while God is waiting for obedience. Some of us are praying for overflow while God is waiting for faithfulness. Some of us are praying for elevation while God is waiting for consistency. Because God isn’t just looking for faith, he’s looking for faithfulness.

Obedience creates capacity. Here’s what people don’t talk about enough. Obedience expands your capacity. It builds endurance. It strengthens discipline. It forms spiritual maturity. It prepares you for what you asked for. I’ve seen this in my own life recently, clear as day. The more obedient I am in the areas God is convicting me in, the more I can feel Him trusting me with more. And it’s humbling because it feels like God is saying: “I see you. I can trust you. Keep going.”

The lord rewards everyone for their righteousness and faithfulness.

1 Samuel 26:23

Don’t quit three feet before the breakthrough. There’s an analogy that always sticks with me. It’s about this man digging for gold. He digs and digs and digs but gets tired. He gets discouraged. He feels like nothing is happening. So he quits. But what he didn’t know is that the gold was just three feet away! And someone else came behind him, kept digging, and found it. And honestly? This happens spiritually all the time. People pray. People wait. People get tired of “nothing happening” and then they give up on God.

But Scripture tells us exactly what to do in those moments:

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.

Galatians 6:9

You don’t know what God is doing behind the scenes. You don’t know what he’s aligning in the unseen. You don’t know what he’s preparing in secret.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.

Hebrews 11:1

You might be three feet away from the blessing. Three feet away from the answered prayer. Three feet away from the breakthrough. And the enemy would LOVE for you to quit right there.

Faith requires movement. Now let me say something that might step on toes ( but in love). Yes, you can ask God for things. But you don’t ask and then sit on the couch waiting for it to fall into your lap. Faith is not passive. Faith moves. Faith obeys. Faith acts.

Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.

James 2:17

You don’t pray for wisdom and refuse to open your Bible. You don’t pray for health and refuse to care for your body. You don’t pray for financial stability and refuse to budget or stop spending recklessly. You don’t pray for purpose and refuse to show up for what God already placed in your hands. Because God wants to see action. He wants to see movement. He wants to see you meet Him in obedience.

Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and He will establish your plans.

Proverbs 16:3

God is listening but he’s also preparing you. I want you to hear this clearly. God hears you. God sees you. God has not forgotten you. Sometimes the delay isn’t denial. Sometimes the delay is development. Sometimes the delay is God strengthening you so you don’t crumble under the weight of what you asked for.

For I know the plans I have for you…plans to proper you and not harm you.

Jeremiah 29:11

Humble yourselves…under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time.

1 Peter 5:6

His timing is intentional. His timing is protective.

Obedience isn’t always easy, but it’s always worth it! Following God isn’t always easy. Obedience can be uncomfortable. It can require sacrifice. It can require discipline when you don’t feel like it. But God’s way is always worth it. Because God sees what we can’t. He knows what we need before we know. He knows the end from the beginning. And His Word promises:

In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:6

And the wild part? Obedience doesn’t just unlock blessings…Obedience unlocks your calling.

We are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

Ephesians 2:10

So if you’re waiting…keep moving. If you’ve been praying and waiting…if you’ve felt stuck…if you’re wondering whether God hears you. This is your reminder…What you’re waiting for might be on the other side of obedience. So don’t quit. Don’t stop digging. Don’t give up three feet short. Get up. Move. Obey.

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord.

Psalm 37:23

Because God is faithful. And when He sees that you can handle what you’ve been asking for? He will open doors no man can shut.

I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut.

Revelation 3:8

If this post spoke to you, I want you to do 3 things. 1. Ask God what area He’s calling you to obey in. 2. Write it down and take ONE step today. 3. Don’t stop, keep moving until you see what He promised.

If you’re in a season of waiting, let me remind you…you are not being ignored, you’re being prepared.
